As the world’s most-viewed website, Google holds more than a 92% share in the search engine market. Previously known as Google My Business, a Google Business Profile is an essential aspect of your online marketing campaign, with the ability to attract many new customers to your business through Google searches and maps.
What is Google Business Profile?
Google Business Profile is a free tool that provides you with a business listing on Google. It allows customers to find, locate and contact you and gives you space to exhibit details, images, products and announcements for the public to see.
Creating a free profile is a fantastic way to improve your business’ visibility on Google. That means customers within your listed area are more likely to find you. GBP is available to those with direct contact with their customers, whether that be through having a shop or providing a service. Unfortunately, Google Business Profile isn’t accessible to online-only businesses.
Why should I use Google Business Profile?
In addition to your website and social media platforms, your listings on Google Business Profile help build your reputation as a space to showcase what you offer and the reviews you have earned. The more reviews, pictures and information available to see on your profile makes your business all the more trustworthy to potential customers.
Whether you’re hoping to increase foot traffic or website views, getting yourself found on Google can have huge benefits. As Google Business Profiles are listed directly on Google and Google Maps, you are more likely to be found over your competitors as people tend to choose a service based on these factors when searching their local area. Not only does GBP tell viewers about your company but also how they can get to you.
How do I set up a Google Business Profile?
- Sign in to Google Business Profile Manager. You will be automatically granted access if you are logged into your Google account. Alternatively, enter your Google account details or create a new account.
- Add your business. Enter the name of your business. If it does not appear in the drop-down, click ‘add your business to Google’. Once you have done this, select the category most appropriate to your business and click ‘next’.
- Add your location. For physical premises, click ‘yes’ and enter the business address. You might need to place a marker of your location on the map. If you do not have a physical location but offer a face-to-face service, you can enter your service areas. Click ‘next’.
- If you did not enter a physical address, you need to select a region from the drop-down menu. Click ‘next’.
- Your contact information. Fill out the information required: each field is optional, so you do not have to include a phone number if you would prefer not to, but it is important to include your website URL. Click ‘next’.
- Verification. Enter your real physical address. The address you enter here will not be displayed on Google but is needed to verify your business. Once you click ‘next’, you will find your options for verification. You’ll receive a 5-digit code either on a postcard sent to your address, a text message or an email. When you receive the code, enter it and click ‘verify’. On the confirmation screen, click ‘next’.
- Customise your profile. In this last step, you can enter information such as your business hours, descriptions, photos, messaging options and more. When completed click ‘continue’ to find yourself at the Google Business Profile Manager dashboard. This screen is where you’ll return the next time you log in and can edit the listed information.
There you have it; your Google Business Profile is ready to go! It’s important to keep your information concise and helpful to make the most of your Google presence. Need more help with your SEO? Get in touch with the experts at Essex Interactive today!
